Mrs Pho

Mrs Pho serves authentic style Vietnamese dishes from classic Pho to flavourful lemon grass chicken. There has been a Pho craze recently with Vietnamese joints popping up everywhere. In my opinion all Pho broth taste the same to me. The real test of quality comes from the quality of the meat as well the side dishes available. Mrs Pho’s spring rolls are top notch and the best I’ve had from all other Vietnamese places. You can tell how fresh they are with the crunchy vegetables and succulent prawns and the sauce that comes with it really takes the cake. The meat balls and chicken wings are to die for too. As for the Pho, I had the beef combo special that incidence regular beef, beef balls and brisket. The brisket was definitely my favourite with tender pieces that weren’t cartilage filled.

Mother and I had 2 bowls of noodles and 4 side dishes which totalled to 30 dollars which is very very affordable I must say. I’d highly recommend this place despite the slight inaccessibility.

(sorry for the off centred photos, was in a rush to eat the food cause it looked so good)

Hey pals, just a quick update before this space becomes dead. Had a great time during Chinese New Year. Had the usual visiting of my mum’s side and seeing the usual familiar faces we only see once a year, as well as visiting T’s family for the second time. His family is so big it’s so hard to keep track of who is who and what their names are. Heck, I don’t even really know the names of the people I visit every year. Nonetheless I’m always happy that these traditions exist and I couldn’t imagine CNY any other way. Regardless, T and I will be doing something different this year. Instead of soothing at home we’ll be going on a holiday along with T’s dad. Our flight to Amsterdam is tonight and I am so excited cause I haven’t been to Europe in 9 years? And Netherlands will be a totally new experience. Stay tuned for strange travel blogs and such!

Ching Chong Lelong

Hi pals! If you don’t already know I’m gonna be selling cookies this Chinese New Year!!!!!! Honestly, I’m really doing this to experience of what it’s like running your own food business and to also raise a little money for my future wedding (9 more years guys, mark it down on your calendars pls) (I’m kidding) (Not really). Okay sorry for the excessive bracket usage. Anyway here are some general things to note!

1. Cookies can be ordered here

2. All orders are on a preorder basis! Meaning you’ll only get them in February when festive season really hits you hard (this is to prevent over excessive eating even more the new year hits, lest you won’t be able to fit into your new clothes)

3. But don’t worry, after you order you’ll get a text from me and we can decide where you will get them!

4. Payment to be made in cash upon collection

5. All orders are final and cannot be taken back.

6. jk Orders end by 5th Feb so feel free to alter your orders till then. But if you place orders and take them away for fun I will hunt you down and kill you -.-

Lemme introduce you to my happy kookie family:

1. Chocolate Chip Cookie

IMG_8214

200g for $8

Classic chocolate chip goodness to die for. Each cookie contains at least 6 chips (you can hypo test that to 5% level of significance) that just blend in with the buttery cookie base to give you a heavenly choclate-y sensation that isn’t too sweet but hits your sweet spot just right!

2. White Chocolate Cranberry Cookies

(not actual size)

200g for $8

I’ve scaled down the size of these cookies into perfect mini bites that you’ll be able to pop into your mouth for a quick snack. These cookies are soft and chewy. For the ultimate sweet tooth, the chewy cranberry bits and creamy white chocolate will put that smile on your face. Plus! The cranberries make you believe you’re actually eating something healthy this festive season 😉

3. Cashew Nut Cookies

IMG_0070

40 Cookies for $8

These little morsels are my favourite favourite! The salty Cashew gives the cookie that nutty taste plus the crispy cookie makes you feel like you’re eating crunchy peanut butter? You can just keep piping them in and I assure you you won’t stop!!

4. Pineapple Tarts

IMG_0055

20 cookies for $10

These are so labour-intensive to make?? My first time making them but they didn’t disappoint at all! Flaky pastry plus sweet jam that (I feel) is just nice with the tart base. They are the classic CNY cookie to make the occasion.

5. Happy Konflakes

IMG_0131

A full jar for $4

You’ve probably seen them before but they’re happy cornflake cups that are crispy and sweet! Great for little kids plus the rainbow sprinkles just make them so cute?? Even if no one visits your home, they are great just to put around the house and snack on when your mouth gets itchy :p

Making all these cookies to share with friends and family make me rather happy, thus “Happy Kookies”, so y’all can continue to share that happiness with loved ones all over and get some happiness for yourselves 🙂

Happy Eating!

ps: come find me for samples if you wanna!!! 🙂

PROM

Hey guys! I compiled a bunch of videos of how my Prom day went so check it out if you’d like (pretty please). Prom was honestly so fun, the day before had been rather draining so it was great to let loose and see all my friends again. Xiao Hui joined me to get ready and I did my make up (and her’s too) and hair myself which I am really proud of cause I used to be so bad. Like putting eye shadow up to eyebrows bad HAHA.

Hope you guys enjoy the video as much as I did filming and compiling the tapes. Planning to do more of these things cause sometimes a photo just can’t capture the whole experience? Something like that.

Work tomorrow. Hope you have a great week ahead pals!

xx

ps: have decided to post only every saturday and tuesday so check those days for updates and allll

Marsupial Habitats

Currently 2am in camp and I am attempting to draft a post out for tomorrow (today) before all my photos adds up to a  backlog of unfinished/unwritten blog post. Computer also currently dying out due to the lack of me storage space making everything move at a snails pace.

Went out with Keng Siang last sunday which I was very egg cited about because I hadn’t seen him in a while and I’ve also known him for a longish time too but never really did anything together. Phrasing thesis entire post sounds odd. He has become a fellow foodie and runs @foodieaccount on insta (link here) so we went to look for good food at upper thompson since he never seems to venture out of Holland V (or Zouk lol)

We tried Habitat Café and sadly it was really disappointing. Honestly, the food is very very subpar with nothing special about it. The Salmon Matcha Pesto pasta should just be called pesto pasta cause honestly I don’t even get where the matcha comes from besides the green colour? The Bakes eggs was also nothing spectacular, just like pasta sauce from the jar and eggs on toast? If you’re looking for real hearty tomato baked eggs try the Sabsouska from Ollie Cafe or the Bakes Eggs from Strannger’s Reunion. Both have a great earthy Mediterranean taste due to spicy tomato sauce, very noms and good for vegetarians who eat eggs! The poutine at Habitat was also highly raved about but we found it to just be fries dredged in KFC mash potato sauce and some cheese. Nothing worth 8 dollars.

I felt rather sad after that HAHA. Like don’t you get upset after you take your friend out to some place that they don’t enjoy? It’s as if you have done an injustice to their tastebuds and they will never trust to go out with you again!!!! Then again I am very dramatic and everyone says I need to chill so *breathes in and out* I am good.
